Squirrels are cute…

Giraffe & Squirrel on wolaver.org… and we taste like Czarbux.

That’s probably what the long-necked friend of mine was probably thinking when he gave me a lick just this morning. I don’t think that he managed to get a Czarbux kick from licking me, because I don’t even smell like Czarbux.

*Sniffs self*

Ooohhh….. I take that back – I do smell like Czarbux Mocha-Mocha-Mocha.

Heehee. I guess I need a shower. I couldn’t resist the Mocha-Mocha-Mocha just sitting there on the park bench. I had to get at it. Nuts lurves it.

That will keep Nuts happy for the next few days.

*Scampers away*

Turn your Nokia phone into a WiFi hotspot

JoikuSpot is a nifty little program that you can download for free on your Nokia phone, which will enable it to turn itself into a WiFi hotspot for your other devices.

One downside – no network encryption.

Hey… but it’s free, right?

Chinese New Year

2-6-08_ChineseNewYearOn the eve of Chinese New Year which happens to be tonight, family members of Chinese ancestry gather from all around to celebrate together at a HUGE reunion dinner.

Akin to Thanksgiving in the United States or Canada, this dinner usually turns out to be quite an event, not only in food. The festivities sometimes includes 10 courses for dinner and the burning of firecrackers at the stroke of midnight (which is illegal in a lot of countries, but some have been able to sneak this in). Also, there will be the receiving (or giving if you’re married) of red packets filled with money which signifies good luck.

This year is 4705, according to the lunar calendar, Read more »

Starting Over

Starting OverHave you ever told yourself that you’ll have a few chips but end up eating the entire bag?

How about pledge to eat better, but after 3 days, fall off your healthy eating regiment?

What about starting an exercise habit, only to feel that it’s too hard to keep it in your daily routine?

If this sounds familiar, you are not alone. By February, an astounding number of people who had started out the New Year with grand resolutions of exercising and eating better have mostly fallen off the band-wagon. Why is it so hard to stick to these goals? Has life set in quickly, that it’s easier to ditch these new resolutions and continue live the way that it’s been for the past ummm…. 30-odd years?

So how do you press the reset button? Just get right back up on that buggy? Riiigghhtt…. Read more »

Spending Habits

2-4-08_MoneyWith the Patriots losing the Superbowl last night, a lot of New Englanders went back to work Monday feeling a little blue and bleary eyed. I myself, felt a little blue in the tummy. Having eaten quite a number of artery-clogging snacks, I must have done a number to my belly, not to mention my wallet… the first casualty of the evening.

One can not help but realize that the Superbowl is big business. Myriads of companies rush out to plunk down chunks of money to book primetime ad slots. Whatever the big corporations paid for this time, probably had no impact on the sales. In my opinion, 80% of the ads were surprisingly below par this time around. Has someone tightened up the cash flow on ad development and creativity? One cannot help but wonder.

I mean, come on! Who wants to watch Read more »

Nuts about Starbucks

1-31-08_Nuts_Starbucks_165Newbury.jpgBoston gets cold in the winter. So cold that I often want to curl up in bed, turn on the TV and do nothing.

The weather this morning wasn’t much different than any other winter mornings that I’ve experienced so far. It had stayed below freezing for weeks. The weather man on TV confirms that the temperature will stay low all through the day.

This morning wasn’t any different than any other mornings. I do have a hard time waking up and getting out of bed; so much so, that one would say that I have a condition to late rising. As I struggled out of bed and got ready to head out, I wondered groggily what my day was going to be, what I had to accomplish and who I had to meet.

I had never envisioned though, that today would involve Read more »

DIY Camera Stabilizer

I stumbled upon this cool camera vertical stabilizer on lifehacker while surfing the web. A really smart way to create something out of almost nothing! Great for those who are into photography, or do not have a tripod nearby.

Note : Does not replace an actual tripod.

Crabs!

Chili CrabNow, that I’ve got your attention, get your mind out of the gutter. I do not mean “crabs” as in that debilitating itching disease…

*Shudders*

No, no, no… I mean the animals known as crustaceans. You know, the ones that you find in the sea.

Anyway, the topic of crabs came to my attention about a week or so ago. I had been chatting online with a dear friend of mine who had been complaining about having eaten too much crabs over the weekend.

Now, keep in mind – this has been a common… Read more »

The Importance of Humidity

HumidifierWhenever I travel back to the tropics of South-East Asia, I brace myself for the sudden heat and humidity changes. Growing up in such a climate had been quite harsh on everything that lives there… (well, at least the people and animals, not plants as they LOVE the climate, thus the lush rainforests).

The average daily temperature there, stuck at 30ºC (86ºF), and the constant sun beating down on your backs – it’s the kind of heat that could kill you if you weren’t careful.

Growing up, I never quite understood why the region received great amounts of sunshine, heat and humidity, not forgetting its stormy monsoon seasons. I’ve almost always thought the sweatiness generated from the heat and humidity had been a curse to all mankind living in these lands.

One of the victims of this weather happens to be Read more »

I Heart CVS

CVS Receipt 1-27-08How many times can you come back from the store and say that you’ve spent 47¢ on shampoo, conditioner, gallon milk, a candy bar and mouthwash?

Forty-seven cents!!! I know, that sounds crazy, but I just did!

Mr GC was pretty impressed with my recent “lavish spending” that he commented that 47¢ on all the stuff I bought is a complete rip off…. for the 1920s.
